Clinical Psychologist

Kathleen Payne joined Bay Area Psychology & Counseling after practicing psychology with the Veteran and Active Duty populations for six years. Her current practice includes psychotherapy for adolescents (ages 12 to 18) and adults, as well as psychological and neuropsychological testing (ages 6 to 106), and consultation services.

Kathleen received a Ph.D. from the Clinical Psychology program at the University of Southern Mississippi and completed her internship experience at the Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System. Her research and clinical experiences with a wide range of psychological theories and patient populations, as well as her substantial academic and practical training in empirically-supported treatments add to her ability to effectively work with clients from varying backgrounds with a wide range of presenting issues.

Her professional interests include, but are not limited to, mood management, trauma/PTSD, and behavioral medicine/health psychology (chronic pain management, sleep disorders, weight loss). She is certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy (the leading evidence-based treatment for PTSD) and in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for chronic pain management.

Kathleen has genuine respect and compassion for the clients she serves and is sensitive to individual needs.  She is determined and motivated to promote and achieve quality care, assisting individuals with improving their quality of life. As a psychologist, she finds it incredibly rewarding to witness the changes that occur for clients and to empower individuals by highlighting their strengths and points of resilience.
